Hemdee Kiwanuka came
into the lime light, plainly as Halima Namakula’s son. As you may know, this
didn’t get him any notice. When he tried his music luck along side the mother,
we literally called him a wanabe.
Years went on and
Hemdee didn’t churn out any hit but only appeared in a couple of videos
throwing one lines of his name, eyo, Hemdee…… we taking over’ …. Yes DJ Khaled
and Diddy style.
He turned to concert
promotions by bringing American artistes into Africa, his efforts were appreciated
back home but didn’t get him any standing ovations, especially with the poorly
attended KC and Jojo show and the would be Boys 2 Men concert.
However, the observer
can confirm that Hemdee’s world travels have finally paid off. It all started
when Hemdee met US based Jamaican RnB artist, Sean Kingston’s mother in 2011.
This was at the time he was prompting Sean’s Kampala concert.
They agreed to create a
reality show about Sean Kingston and that’s how the show Fame in the family was conceptualized.
Fame in the family
takes a look at the integral role family relationships play in the lives of
both Sean and Romeo. It’s widely been viewed as an effort to bring back the two
music stars that were fast fading from the international scene.
The show is set to
premier on American TV network E! in July this year.
It will be screened
before Kourtney & Kim take New York,
one of the Kardishian TV productions.
The pilot and teaser episode
was on screened on E! on Sunday 17th, and is also available on
different youtube channels.
Hemdee joins the big league of different
reality TV creators like Ryan Seacrest and Simon fuller.
The overjoyed Hemdee
has since changed the information on his twitter handle to accommodate titles
like creator and co-executive producer, Fame
in the family.
This makes Hemdee, the
first African to create reality show for a major network.
Its intimated, that as
a creator and co-executive produce, Hemdee will pocket atleast $40,000 (about 100
ush million) per episode. Now, this is what I call a high budget celebrity, by
far.
